Create & Make Workshop: Paper Quilling Mandalas
Wednesday, February 28 Paper Quilling Mandalas Amaranta Ibarra-Sandys
Participants will learn basic techniques of quilling or paper filigree which is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. Moreover, mandalas are especially relaxing to embellish with color because of their circular patterns and geometric shapes.
Bio Amaranta Ibarra-Sandys feels passionate about educating, especially in helping those gain access to arts education. Through her art programs she likes to give students the necessary tools for a competitive future: critical thinking, collaboration, trial and error and to plant a seed of new possibilities. She encourages participants to value curiosity through observation and gain self-confidence. Nothing makes her more happy than enriching your inner channel of creativity. She graduated from Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City with a degree on Ceramics & Folk Art History in 2000. Since moving to Seattle, that same year, she has tried many venues to promote her art, to expand her knowledge, and to find the time to create new pieces for exhibition. Amaranta is always looking at the balance between social lifestyle, family and travel. Nature wonders, celebration of cultures, music, social justice, women empowerment, and inclusiveness are just a handful of core values applied to her classroom, artwork and personal life.
