AUP Presents: An Evening of Sondheim: Cocktails & Cabaret
Acting Up Productions (AUP) will present their second Cabaret of the season An Evening of Sondheim: Cocktails and Cabaret January 11-18, 2013 at the Creative Arts and Event Center in Greenfield.
Stephen Sondheim is an American composer and lyricist who is described by Frank Rich of the New York Times as "now the greatest and perhaps best-known artist in the American Musical theatre". Some of Sondheim's most famous works as both composer and lyricist are "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Form", "Sweeney Todd", and "Into the Woods". He also wrote the lyrics for "West Side Story" and "Gypsy" along with writing material for movies such as "Dick Tracy" where the song "Sooner or Later (I Always Get My Man)" won the Academy Award for Best Song.
AUP's production will cover lesser known songs, big hits, selections from "Sweeney Todd", relationship songs and showstoppers. Artistic Director R. Brian Noffke will serve as emcee and special musical guest for the Cabaret. Business Director Elizabeth A. Williams will also appear. Previous AUP audience members will recognize the voices of Katie Rae (An Evening of Cole Porter & Hoagy Carmichael Cabaret) and Leah DeWalt (Nevermore). Rounding out the cabaret cast are AUP newcomers Chris Meek, John Hayes, Liz Porter and Denise Fort.
An Evening of Sondheim is being offered as a "Cocktails and Cabaret". At $20 per ticket, audience members will enjoy cash bar service and hors d'oeuvres provided by the Creative Arts and Event Center while being entertained by songs such as "Comedy Tonight", "Children Will Listen", "Johanna", "Broadway Baby", and "Being Alive."
An Evening of Sondheim: Cocktails and Cabaret will be presented January 11-18, Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. for 8:00 shows and 2:30 p.m. for 4:00 shows for drink service and appetizers. Tickets are $20. Reservations are recommended. Walk-ins will be accepted upon availability.
