Create & Make Workshop: Adventures in Painting: Mixed Media with Acrylic
Wednesday, January 17 Adventures in Painting: Mixed Media with Acrylic Laura Cameron
This is a step-by-step painting class designed for beginners and experienced alike. Participants will see a complete example while following along to live painting to go from blank canvas to completed painting. Materials and techniques will be introduced in a series of steps to complete an 11X14 or 12X12 mixed media painting, beginning with the general shapes and larger background areas first, using acrylic paint and mediums for mixed media techniques. The second part of the class will be spent with adding details with increasingly smaller brushes. Along the way, participants will transfer /or create a basic block-in sketch, how to mix and apply colors, how to hold the brush to make a specific stroke, and other tips and tricks specific to acrylic painting. The materials will be provided: good-quality acrylic paints, and mediums, such as Mod Podge or gloss gel, select handmade papers that can be torn or cut, brushes and other painting materials. Emphasis will be placed on trying out materials and techniques, and encouraging students to bring their own unique style and vision to their work, rather than achieving the perfect copy. Students will be left with a completed painting and a sense of accomplishment.
Bio Laura Cameron started teaching private lessons out of her studio in 2011 when a friend wanted to learn how to mix color. With more interested students that followed, she created a curriculum focused on the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and Celtic Art. In 2013, Laura began teaching Wine and Canvas by leading step-by-step painting events to groups of people in various spaces, including restaurants, corporate offices and private homes. Between 2015 to 2016, Laura expanded her teaching experience and collaborated with a local therapist to present three workshops that paired art with meditation. Currently, she offers custom art events for small groups in her private studio, pairing painting, collage and mixed-media. Her intention is to create a relaxed, inspired and fun atmosphere for people who want to bring creative practice into their lives.
