The 2013 Season
February 1-16
Visiting Mr. Green by Jeff Baron
Directed by K. Sandy O'Brien
Mr. Green, an elderly, retired dry cleaner, wanders into New York traffic and is almost hit by a car driven by Ross Gardiner, a 29-year-old corporate executive. The young man is given a community service of helping the recent widower once a week for six months. What starts as a comedy about two men who do not want to be in the same room together becomes a gripping and moving drama as they get to know each other, come to care about each other, and open old wounds they've been hiding and nursing for years. Translated into 22 languages, with over 200 productions in large and small venues, it has won numerous best play and best actor awards throughout the world.
MARCH 22-31, 2013
Ain't Misbehavin' Music by Fats Waller, Conceived by Murray Horwitz & Richard Maltby
Directed by Allenda Jenkins
Produced in collaboration with The Whidbey Playhouse
The outrageously prodigious comic and musical soul of 1930's Harlem lives on in this rollicking, swinging, finger-snapping revue that is still considered one of Broadway's best.
MAY 3-18,2013
Lettice and Lovageby Peter Shaffer
Directed by Tim Rarrick
Lettice Duffet, an expert on Elizabethan cuisine and medieval weaponry, is an indefatigable but daffy enthusiast of history and the theatre. As a tour guide at Fustian House, one of the least stately of London's stately homes, she theatrically embellishes its historical past, ultimately coming up on the radar of Lotte Schon, an inspector from the Preservation Trust. Neither impressed or entertained by Lettice's freewheeling history lessons, Schon fires her. Not one however, to go without a fight, Lettice engages the stoic, conventionial Lotte in battle to the death of all that is sacred to the Empire and the crown. This 2006 Tony Award nominee by the author of Equus and Amadeus featured a triumphant award-winning performance by Dame Maggie Smith in London and on Broadway.
JULY 19 - August 3, 2013
Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and living in Paris, Conceived, English Lyrics and Additional Material by Eric Blau & Mort Shuman, based on Jacques Brel's lyrics and commentary, Music by Jacques Brel
Directed by K. Sandy O'Brien
The poignant, passionate and profound songs of Belgian songwriter Jacques Brel are brought to vivid theatrical life in this intense musical experience. Brel's legendary romance, humor and moral conviction are evoked simply and directly, with four actors, four musicians and four stools. The result is a powerful, intimate, bold and emotional evening of theatre. Brimming with flair, attitude and European sophistication, these rich compositions bring to mind the groundbreaking work of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, creating a universe all their own that consistently startles with its daring, candor and insight. The sheer musical poetry of each song supports many layers of interpretation, giving the show a new and unexpected meaning with every new cast and production team that takes it on.
September 20 - October 5, 2013
High School Reunion: The Musical, Book & Lyrics by Billy Van Zandt & Jane Milmore; Music by Billy Van Zandt, Jane Milmore & Nick DeGregorio
Directed by K. Sandy O'Brien
Welcome to the 30th Reunion of the Class of '79. Everyone you ever loved, hated, had a crush on, or wanted to punch in the face will be there. They are just older, fattier and angrier. Old scores will be settled, old games will be replayed and new (or should we say old) love will be found. And they will all be singing and dancing to an amazing score by Van Zandt, Milmore & Nick DeGregorio including "I Hope They Know Me," "I Want to Bang Miss Blumquist," "(I'm in a) Garden State of Mind," and the show stopping "I'll Never Dance With You."
