Symphony Nova, Needham Bank Great Hall Concert Series 2013-14
Formed in 2007 as the Neponset Valley Philharmonic Orchestra (NVPO), Symphony Nova has expanded its vision to become New England's first professional training orchestra. Symphony Nova, has added programs to not only prepare its musicians for the rigors of professional musical performance, but also develop business and interpersonal skills that are required for long-term success. These topics are not typically offered in conservatory programs, and include grant writing, tax preparation and personal finances, mock auditions, and the creation and performance of educational concerts. Each season, Symphony Nova's 65-member orchestra performs four orchestral concerts (three classical and one pops), with each concert presented once in downtown Boston (at Old South Church) and once in the Neponset Valley. Symphony Nova strives to enhance the community of the Neponset Valley by providing an educational and cultural activity to an area that is artistically under-served, as well as contribute to the musical community in Boston.

Symphony Nova is New England's first and only training orchestra. The Boston metro area is uniquely suited for a professional training orchestra due to the high number of musicians graduating from internationally acclaimed music schools each year. We will offer them the chance to expand their knowledge and professional skills pertinent to a career in music, as well as be paid to perform with experienced professionals to give them the post-graduate experience they need to succeed. In return, the communities of Boston and the surrounding areas will have the opportunity to hear standard and contemporary music at the highest professional level and at reasonable prices. Additionally, we will help to build a pipeline of young, experienced, professional musicians while keeping them in the Boston area, which improves the quality of life and economy of the community. There are few ensembles in the region that support young players in this way.
