Laurie Gelman
Laurie Gelman spent 25 years as a broadcaster with the BBC and also as a producer at CBS TV before writing full time. She lives in Manhattan, New York, with her husband, TV producer Michael Gelman (LIVE with Kelly) and their two teenage daughters.
Gelmans debut novel, Class Mom, is set just outside of Kansas City, MO and is praised as uproariously funny. The protagonist, Jen Dixon, is fully committed to her husband and college-aged daughters, but also to her young son Max and her newfound duties in Room 147 at Taft Elementary School. The missives throughout the novel are in fact replicas of the ones Gelman herself wrote, imploring parents to sign up for the endless succession of class treats, school supplies and chaperoning duties for field trips.
"Gelman's debut is a literary stand-up routine, and you might as well just give in: this woman is going to get a laugh out of you." --Kirkus Reviews
