Participating Knitting Weekend teaching artists and designers, and the Berroco Design Team, will exhibit finished and published works at this annual trunk show.

"A Single Strand Comes Full Circle,"
A talk by Margery Winter. Begins at 7:30 p.m.; ends at 8:15.
In the artist's words: Being an artist and holding a family together while navigating a commercial world caused me to take unexpected detours. These divergences were rich with imagery, materials and inspiration. Though I was paid for my vision, style, editorial focus, creativity and trend spotting skills, my hands were never idle. I now spend my days in my studio using the skills and materials that I have mastered over the past four decades of a commercial career in the handknitting yarn industry. The present is arguably the most fulfilling chapter of my life so far. It seems that art, textiles, fibers and fashion are converging on many levels.
I have a fascination with the disrupted urban landscape, a heritage of textile manufacturing and the preservation of iconic mill buildings along with the random chaos of the human presence. My daily walks through this landscape inspire me to create my pieces. Right now my preferred mediums are yarn, human and synthetic hair, paint, markers, needle and thread. By combining techniques of garment construction - knitting, sewing, felting, embroidery along with drawing and painting, I create pieces that command the viewer to relate on a visual and visceral level. The silencing, warmth of felted wool draws the viewer in while the eye moves through a myriad of facets following the composition of line, form and rhythm telling my story of a journey of a single strand.

1. Finishing School / Dylan Uscher/ **SOLD OUT**
We've all been there. You do all the knitting for a large piece that youre really excited about and then the piece just sit there for weeks (months? years?) unfinished in a bag. In this class, Dylan Uscher teaches you all the ins and outs of good finishing habits from proper sewing methods, blocking methods, and lots of tips and tricks to make your finished pieces look and feel professionally made. The class will cover sewing side seams, top seams (both finished and unfinished), blocking methods, the best ways to weave in ends, and covering over mistakes with various post-knitting methods. Bring 4 swatches on needles or stitch holders, preferably in a worsted or larger weight, 20 stitches wide and at least 4 long, a darning needle, and scissors or snips. Students are encouraged to bring in any knit, but unfinished projects theyve had lying around, so they can troubleshoot specific techniques and get their projects done.
2. Mosaic Knitting / Diane Ivey
Coined by Barbara G. Walker in the late 1960's, Mosaic knitting may be the least known form of colorwork, yet it is a wonderful and easy way of knitting with two colors. In this class, Diane will demystify the technique, and show students how easy and satisfying it can be. It is great for beginners who haven't yet worked in multiple colors, or for intermediates who want to add the technique to their skillset. In addition to the technique, we'll discuss how to create Mosaic patterns, and put your own imagination for design to work.
3. Color Theory for Knitters / Michelle Charest **SOLD OUT!!**
This class will explore the diverse ways color can be used in knitting. We will begin by using the color wheel to discuss useful concepts such as hue, saturation, and lightness, building on these concepts to consider how different colors and groups of colors interact. Then we will employ a variety of quick and simple methods of color testing and swatching to tackle the unique challenges knitters face when working with color. Specific topics will include: substituting colors and developing your own color palettes, working with multi-colored or variegated yarns, and choosing colors for colorwork. Please bring a set of colored pencils, minimum 2-yards each of 2 or 3 colors (or multi-colored) of any yarn you personally like.

Enjoy a catered luncheon attend by our KW teaching artists and other regional fiber and textile artists, and you! Engage in a round-table discussion about design, craft, skill, inspiration, and any topics of importance to luncheon attendees. Wines and other beverages will be served. Live jazz performed by the Steve DeConti Trio.

1. Two at a Time Socks / Pam Sluter
No more second sock syndrome! In this class students will learn how to knit two socks at the same time using the Magic Loop. We will work on a pair of toddler sized socks to learn the basics of this method. Socks will be worked from the cuff down. Students should know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. Materials: 200 yards worsted weight yarn wound into 2 equal size balls, size US 4 29-32 circular needle, locking stitch markers.
2. Reading Your Knitting / Alison Green **SOLD OUT!!**
Reading your knitting is a foundational skill to be able to knit faster, more accurately, and more pleasurably! This workshop will help you to understand the construction of knitted fabric, so that you can use visual cues to work different stitch patterns. You will also be able to avoid (and fix) mistakes, will rarely have to count stitches, and will gain more confidence reading charts. Imagine how freeing it would feel if you could just know what stitch to work just by looking at your work! Please bring: Light-colored, worsted or bulky weight yarn and knitting needles an appropriate size for your yarn.
3. Simply Addictive Jewelry Crochet / Ellen Mason
Artist and designer Ellen Mason imparts her own addictive and efficient method of creating beaded fiber jewelry from a platform of basic crochet techniques. A great class and ROI for craft vendors building inventory for their booths, or DIY-ers who prefer to skip the mall and create quality hand-made gifts instead. Experiment with fasteners and chain-links, or bump it up a color notch with an MX dye bath when your necklace is complete. Bring materials you wish to explore, to widen the range of finished product price points. Ellen will provide an assortment of threads and supplies, but students please BYO beads and embellishments 25mm with holes large enough to accommodate embroidery-gauge thread.
