Herbaceous Peonies: How to Divide, Plant and Basic Care
Herbaceous Peonies: How to Divide, Plant and Basic Care with Westport Garden Club's Ellen Greenberg Saturday, Nov. 11, 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Rain or shine.$25. Nursery pots, soil and fertilizer will be provided.
Peonies have a reputation for being finicky to plant, andparticularly tricky to move or divide. But, with a few simple rules, they are easy to establish and keep growing for years. Ellen Greenberg, former President of the Westport Garden Club, has dug and replanted or potted more than 100 peonies over the years. In this class, participants will learn the basics of fall cleanup and spring care. Then the group will go outside and "dig" a large peony that we will then divide and replant.
We will be dividing a "Cheddar Charm peony, a hardy, lightly fragrant, mid-season peony originally purchased at White Flower Farm over 10 years ago. This will be its second major division.Small bags of peony fertilizer will be for sale for $5, and the peony divisions will be raffled for $5 bare root or $20if you stay and pot it at WTF.Optional supplies to bring: gloves, clippers. Dress for the outdoors and getting dirty.
