Kellye Gray at the Sound Room
Rendering, the new release from vocalist Kellye Gray, is two-disc package which includes a live studio recording of a tribute concert celebrating the 25th anniversary of Standards In Gray, her debut album recorded in 1989 and her receiving ownership rights to that recording after it was out of print for 23 years. The tribute concert recording was made inside a recording booth in front of a live audience. The new and old packaged together present a reflection of her growth as a jazz artist.
Jazz is made in the moment. The challenge was to capture another moment of the Standards session, but also add in some originals and contemporary tunes. Thirty guests joined us inside the booth. No rehearsal, only a soundcheck read through and then the downbeat. Floor and room monitors only. No headphones. One-take only. No stopping, no second takes. This is Rendering.
This is Kellye's last Bay Area performance before relocating to Paris! Appearing with Kellye is Adam Shulman, Peter Barshay and Greg Wyser-Pratt. www.kellyegray.com for more information
