An Evening of Stories and Songs with Michael Reno Harrell
The Marshall Grange proudly presents the return of the Appalachian singer/songwriter/storyteller Michael Reno Harrell on Friday Nov. 3 beginning at 7:30. Michael has won lots of awards and has appeared at major music and storytelling festivals with all sorts of famous folks, but that doesnt begin to describe the magic he brings to a performance in both spoken word and song. He makes you feel like youre sitting together in the backyard or the porch, the perfect setting for his stories and songs done with a wit and charm rooted deep in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. His subjects are mostly everyday things: the high school boys who got bored being shepherds in the Nativity play (Sledding Shepherds); the story of a waitress in a late-night roadside café (Mamas Still in There); the perils of putting in a new woodstove (Talking Woodstove Blues); a guy pan-handling at McDonalds (Say, Did I Mention), a local singer looking for the big time (Mavis Went to Memphis); a water tank that got converted into a roller rink (Roller Rink), to name a few. Michaels songs and stories are true Appalachian girt and wit, kind of like your granddaddys pocket knife: well warn and familiar feeling, but razor sharp and with a point. You can learn more about Michael and hear his stories and songs at www.michaelreno.com.
