International Award-Winning Polish Organist Mateusz Rzewuski - IN CONCERT
A great organist in a great space! The Great Spaces Music & Arts Series welcomes the young award-winning Polish concert organist Mateusz Rzewuski to Grace Cathedral on Friday, November 3 at 7 p.m. He will perform on the Cathedrals great 65-rank, 4-manual pipe organ in the fantastic acoustic of the neo-Gothic church.
Grace Cathedral is located at 701 SW 8th Avenue in downtown Topeka, KS. Tickets for this hour-long concert are only $10 for adults, $5 for students and children 12 and younger are free. Special rates for groups of 10 or more are available by contacting the Cathedral Office during the week at 785-235-3457. Mateusz Rzewuski was born in 1991 in uków (Poland). He completed with honors and with the highest mark a Masters degree course at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in organ conducted by Professor Andrzej Chorosiski and Masters Program - Master of Music in Musikhochschule in Lubeck in organ under Professor Franz Danksagmüller
During international festivals Mateusz performed concerts in Poland, Germany, France, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2011, Mateusz was a finalist of the International Festival of Sacred Music in Rumia and in the following year he made recordings for Polish Television.
In 2013, he was a finalist in the All-Poland Competition for Organ Improvisation in Legnica. In the same year he won first prize and was awarded special prize at the International Organ Competition Organists of New Europe (Organici Nowej Europy) in Bardo. He also took part in the Erasmus student exchange program in Musikhochschule in Lubeck, where he studied organ under Professor Franz Danksagmüller. In 2013, he also initiated the Organ and Chamber Music Festival in uków, where he serves as the artistic director.
In 2015, he won second prize and was awarded a special prize at the VII International M. K. iurlionis Organ Competition in Vilnius. He was twice awarded a scholarship by the president of the capital city of Warsaw and a scholarship to the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. Mateusz was also awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Science and won the Young Poland (Moda Polska) scholarship of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to study for a Masters Degree in Germany for his outstanding artistic achievements.
Currently he is studying organ and improvisation at Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Paris studying with Christophe Mantoux.
