Candlelight Concert of Remembrance : Rutter Requiem and other works
Friends of Music at St. Johns, of The Church of Saint John the Evangelist, Newport, present a Candlelight Concert of Remembrance benefiting national and international disaster relief, on Sunday November 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Washington and Willow Streets, Newport. The St. Johns adult choir and the Professional Choristers of The Choir School of Newport County will be joined for two pieces by special guests The Newport Navy Choristers. The program features John Rutters complete Requiem with chamber orchestra, the Navy Hymn, Sumsions They that go down to the sea in ships, Brahmss How lovely is thy dwelling place and other works celebrating All Saints/All Souls, Remembrance Sunday, and Veterans Day. The performers and program also honor the historic connection between St. Johns Church and the Naval War College, commemorating Stephen Bleecker Luce and Alfred Thayer Mahan, the first two presidents of the Naval War College, who as vestrymen played key roles in the early history of St. Johns.
Thanks to the advance underwriting of the costs of the concert, 100% of ticket donations will be sent to Episcopal Relief and Development for national and international disaster aid. Tickets are $50 (premium seating), $25 (regular adult), $20 (seniors and students) available online and at the door. Reception following.
