Maintaining Selfhood: Voice, Choice and Finding Equity in Collaboration
How do you maintain your selfhood under pressures from your self, the outside world, with pressures from collaborators? This workshop will dive into a few practices that can help you maintain your limitless creativity in the face of boundaries. Maintaining your selfhood and creating healthier boundaries in collaboration. Our time will include some writing & sharing, artistic self/collaborative self care and skill building in hopes of leading participants to develop a more sustainable artistic practice. The Maintaining Selfhood workshop will provoke artists to engage with their imagination, hone their confidence to take bold risks and develop the supportive structures critical to a collaborative practice.
This workshop is the first of five that will be held throughout November and December, 2017. The series is a collaboration between Patrick's Cabaret, Soo Visual Arts Center, and Pangea World Theater. This program is intended to create collaborative space for artists to share their skills with fellow artists and organizers, to strengthen relationships and build resilience, and to provide opportunities for artists to put their knowledges to work.
This workshop is designed and led by Lisa Marie Brimmer. Lisa is a Queer, Black, Transracial Adoptee poet and arts based community organizer. She is a two-time Givens Foundation for African American Literature fellow, has received a Playwrights Center Many Voices Fellowship and is a current graduate fellow at the University of St. Thomas in English Literature.
