Join us for a celebratory presentation of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Hodie on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
Vaughan Williams' vocal music is inspired by his lifelong belief that the voice "can be made the medium of the best and deepest human emotion". Hodie ("This Day"), the last of his choral works, was written when he was 82. He drew upon a lifetime of resources and knowledge to create a fantastic mix of sacred and secular, medieval and modern. His telling of the Nativity story employs not only Biblical texts, but also the words of a number of writers, including John Milton, Thomas Hardy, and Vaughan Williams' wife Ursula. The work is by turns austere, sweet, and joyous.
Accompanied by Nova Vista Symphony and Vivace Youth Chorus of San Jose, we will be performing at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Saratoga, at 7:30 pm.
Children age 11 and under will be admitted for free.
