THE GHOSTS OF CHRISTMAS PAST
One of Scotland's foremost live storytellers takes up residence on Arran with a ghostly Christmas tale in the grand seasonal manner.
For several years now, Marty Ross has been combining a successful career as a playwright for the likes of BBC Radio (Ghost Zone, Catch My Breath, Darker Side Of The Border) Big Finish (Doctor Who & Dark Shadows audio) and Audible (Romeo & Jude, Treasure Island) with the performance of his own work as a live theatrical storyteller at the likes of the Edinburgh Fringe, London Horror Festival, Southside Fringe & Britannia Panopticon. Relocating this autumn to the Island of Arran, he begins what he hopes will be a series of storytelling shows on the island, ranging from the creepy to the charming, the gritty to the magical.
First up, in the grand tradition of winter night storytelling, comes THE GHOSTS OF CHRISTMAS PAST, an original full length dramatic piece telling the tale of how a young homeless woman in Victorian Glasgow (where Christmas isn't even a day off!) accepts a charitable offer from a Kirk minister of shelter in his grand house on the edge of the city. But there may be more to this kind offer than meets the eye, and in the beautiful but isolated house, there may be ghosts from previous Christmases ready to emerge from the shadows.....
Those who have seen Ross' previous shows will know that what is on offer here is not cosy laid back Jackanory storytelling but full blown full tilt theatrical drama, as previous reviews testify...
Marty Ross has perfected this art of storytelling - TVBomb
Ross has a great aptitude for suspense & terror - The Scotsman
Insanely good storytelling... a master craftsman who never turns down the pressure... Trainspotting meets Gothic horror - Broadway Baby
Visceral. A compelling narrator and onstage presence. A fair ground ghost ride for the 21st. Century. - Fringe Review.
As in ages past, it's hoped islanders and visitors will come together on a winter's eve to enjoy a ghostly tale in the grand manner.
(Some refreshments provided, but audience members should feel free to bring a bottle as venue will be set out in cafe style.)
