Rejoice! Rejoice! Baroque and Renaissance choral masterworks with orchestra
Voci Women's Vocal Ensemble presents "Rejoice! Rejoice!" --three performances of stunning sacred renaissance and baroque masterworks, featuring the Jubilate Baroque Orchestra and soprano MacKenzie Covington. The concerts showcase works by Bach, Porpora, Hasse, Charpentier, Cozzolani, Vivaldi and Victoria. Voci's Artistic Director, Mitchell Covington brings exceptional expertise in the Baroque style.
The December performances will feature a rare presentation of Nicola Porpora's inspiring work, Laetatus sum, featuring emerging Bay Area soprano MacKenzie Covington. Porpora wrote two very different versions of this text for the young women of the Venetian ospedali and this setting for soprano solo is virtuosic. We believe that this particular work has never been performed in the United States.
This December 3 performance will be offered as part of the Notes for Nourishment concert series, a project of Listen for Life, at the beautiful baroque church, St. Joseph Basilica in Alameda. In keeping with the theme of Voci's Voices in Peace fall concert tradition, the Notes for Nourishment series brings together artists across cultures and traditions in concerts to feed the soul. A portion of donations received will benefit the Alameda Food Bank. Founded in 1991, Voci Women's Vocal Ensemble is recognized as one of the finest choral groups in the Bay Area. Voci's commitment to musical excellence, unique mastery of style and technique, and adventurous and innovative programming have earned high praise from critics and choral musicians alike. Voci has performed with a wide range of artists and choruses at concerts, festivals and benefits and has commissioned and premiered new works from nationally- and internationally-recognized composers. Voci champions music by women and for women.
This fall's concerts mark the 15th year of Voci's Voices in Peace concert series. Started in 2001, this fall tradition offers stunningly beautiful music to calm and inspire us on a path to peace. A recent concert-goer wrote: "The Voci ensemble is the most creative gift musically...would that it could be broadcast to the world and people listened. It would bring peace and understanding among nations."
