MRKT BALL 2017
The Indianapolis City Market will host the 131st Birthday Celebration of the Historic Market House on Dec. 9 at 7p.m. The celebration honors the history of the Market House, aiming to raise funds and increase awareness to ensure the preservation of downtown Indianapolis first and only public Market House.
The MRKT BALL 2017 will have a decidedly 1950s, "rock n' roll" theme; a 60-year tribute to the last concert ever held in Tomlinson Hall before it burned in January of 1958. That show in November of 1957 featured Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, Joe Turner and many other big names of the era.
MRKT BALL 2017 will be a black-tie or costume gala benefitting Indianapolis City Market, specifically a number of placemaking improvement projects intended to make the market a more enjoyable place for people to be.
Senator Richard Lugar will be the guest of honor, attending the event to be recognized for his years of public service - especially the work he did to save and preserve City Market during his tenure as the 44th mayor of Indianapolis.
MRKT BALL guests can stroll through the Historic Market House while enjoying live music from local group Chamber Music, including captivating tunes of the 1950s. Guests can also enjoy complementary drinks at Tomlinson Tap Room, sample a wide variety of foods courtesy of Market merchants, participate in a silent auction, and enjoy a variety of games and activites.
