Eight Abigails
**Friday night is sold out, but tickets are still available for Saturday at 7:30 and 9:30, and Sunday at 7:30.**
Dance artist Kaitlin McCarthy presents Eight Abigails, an evening length performance inspired by The Crucible, Arthur Millers classic play on the Salem witch trials. Through abstract dance, Eight Abigails takes a closer look at the precocious teenage villain whos accusations of witchcraft led to nineteen deaths in Puritan New England. Were her actions fueled by malice, delusion, oppression, or heartbreak? Was she acting out of fear, or out of power?
The eight dancers craft a world of imagistic storytelling and evoke Abigails inner life through entering various extreme emotional states and mass hysteria. Precise choreography is interwoven with improvisation to create a work that is both highly crafted and alive with the unpredictability of a rebellious teen.
Featured dancers are Britt Karhoff, Hannah Rae, Erin Johnson, Danica Bito, Anna Krupp, Jenny Peterson, Tayler Tucker, and Alexandra Spencer.
Live music by Michael Hamm includes percussion, electric guitar, vocals, looping, and live trombone.
The 9:30 "Industry Night" offers $10 tickets for working artists of any genre. The intimate Velocity Theater will sell out, so get your tickets in advance to guarantee seating!
CW: Abigail Williams story includes a questionably consensual relationship. While the content of Eight Abigails remains solidly PG, it does depict a relationship with an imbalance of power in the first 20 minutes.
