By Fr. Columba Kelly, OSB, and Adam Bartlett.

FRIDAY - JANUARY 18- Advanced Sessions for Singers, Cantors and Directors
SESSION I
9:30AM 12:00 Noon
12:00PM - 1:00PM (Lunch on your own)
1:00PM 3:30PM
By Fr. Columba Kelly, OSB
In these two sessions, participants will learn how the practice of Gregorian chant brings to life the Word of God in song, and study the intimate relationship between the proclaimed Word of God and its melodic setting. They will learn how Gregorian chant contributes to the practice of lectio divina, a spiritual reading. The workshop includes study of the original chant notations as the key to unlocking the spiritual and artistic qualities that have influenced later Western music. Practice singing both Latin and English settings in chant style will be included. Repertoire sung will include proper chants from the Graduale Triplex, Graduale Simplex, and from Fr. Kelly's own composition, all of which will be sung at the Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary the following day.
SESSION II
6:00 9:00 General Session, All Invited
By Adam Bartlett
This session will explore the question: "Why does the Church ask us to sing the Mass, rather than singing at Mass?" A general framework for the Church's mind on sacred music will be offered, in addition to a practicum that covers the singing of the chants of the 3rd Edition of the Roman Missal, selections from Simple English Propers and the Lumen Christi Missal, and will prepare the Sung Ordinary, Responsorial Psalm and Alleluia/Verse for the Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary the following day.
SATURDAY - JANUARY 19
