Let My People Go!
Special Preview!

This sweet and hilarious romantic comedy follows the travails and daydreams of a lovelorn French-Jewish gay mailman living in fairytale Finland

In Person: Filmmaker MIKAEL BUCH

Mikael Buch's uproarious Let My People Go! follows the simple plot of hundreds of great film romantic comedies, with a slight twist: boy meets boy; boy loses boy, boy gets boy. A French Jewish young man named Ruben (Nicolas Maury) falls in love with Teema (Jarkko Niemi), a handsome, blond Finnish youth. In a bucolic Finnish village, a heart shaped slab of wood marks their idyllic home. But after a madcap misunderstanding, Ruben's acquisition of a small fortune precipitates boy loses boy and Ruben returns to his family in Paris just before Passover. To paraphrase Tolstoy, every happy Jewish family is alike, each unhappy family has its own mishegas. As for Ruben's father, mother, sister and brother: oy veh. On his arrival to Paris, the forlorn and endearing Ruben is thrust into multiple family dramas. His father confesses infidelity and insists that Ruben meet his mistress and he discovers that his sister's marriage is falling apart. When Ruben escapes to a gay nightclub, he meets a much older family friend who pursues him. All this as the family, who harbor mixed feelings toward Ruben's sexual orientation, prepares for the Passover Seder. While back in Finland, Teeva discovers the truth behind Ruben's actions which led to the breakup. Can true love prevail? In the end, will boy get boy?  Marty Haas (France, 2012, 86 mins., Color, 35mm, In French with English subtitles  Director/Co-Writer: Mikael Buch  Co-Writer: Christophe Honore  Cast: Nicolas Maury, Carmen Maura, Jean-François Stévenin)
