Columbia City Theater's Best Open Mic Ever, Benefitting Bike Works
Bike Works, in partnership with The Columbia City Theater, is pleased to present "Columbia City Theater's Best Open Mic Ever, Benefiting Bike Works". This event is the 2nd in series of Benefit Shows for Bike Works, and will take place at 8pm Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 at The Columbia City Theater, 4916 Rainier Ave S. The show will feature live performances by Blvd Park, Led to Sea, and any others willing to offer their talents in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere! Be a Star, or Be a Fan, but whatever you do, be there to support this worthy cause! Participants do not have to pay to take the stage, but a suggested donation of $15 will be collected in support of Bike Works. Bike Works, an innovative non-profit organization located in the heart of Columbia City, uses the bicycle as a tool for youth empowerment and community engagement and aims to make bicycling accessible and affordable to people from all walks of life. Blvd Park Bio Seattle based Americana folk rock band. An eclectic group of performers, drawing inspiration from folk, rock, rhythm and blues, country, and jazz. Renowned for the their dynamic compositions and thrilling live performances, with a lineup including upright bass, banjo, guitar, trumpet/accordion, fiddle, mandolin, snare, male/female vocal leads, and complex three to five part harmonies.
Originally from Sacramento, the band moved to Seattle in the summer of 2010. They've since focused on establishing themselves in their new home, having performed at many local venues and festivals. Notable appearances include the Tractor Tavern, The Triple Door, and the Columbia City Theatre, as well as Folklife, the Fremont Solstice Fair, and the Pike Place Busker's Festival.
Their most recent album, "The Sound", was released in 2012 and is available on iTunes, Bandcamp, and Seattle area record stores. Their song "Ain't Gonna Be Easy" was recently featured on Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union's compilation album "Homegrown - Music From the Great State of Washington". New songs, recordings, and plans to tour are currently in the works!
Led to Sea Bio Led to Sea is the solo project of Seattle violist/violinist L. Alex Guy. She is sometimes joined by incredible percussionist Paul Kikuchi and bassist Jherek Bischoff. Her live shows have transfixed audiences from all across the U.S. and Europe.
Alex often tours throughout the U.S. and Europe with musicians such as Laura Veirs, Mirah and Jason Webley. She was also a member of the Degenerate Art Ensemble (of Seattle), an experimental-punk-grove orchestra/theater extravaganza for over five years. You can hear her viola and violin stylings on the records of numerous indie and experimental bands including Xiu Xiu, the Dead Science, The Pharmacy and Parenthetical Girls.
