WCR Legends Ball 2017
Did you know that the sport of roller derby started in Chicago? Or that Chicago also formed one of the very first modern roller derby leagues in 2004? This fall, in honor of our 13-year anniversary, the Windy City Rollers are excited to host our annual Legends Ball Fundraiser on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Fatpour Tap Works (2005 W. Division St) from 7-11pm.
Tickets for the Ball are $15.00 per person, which includes event entry and food.
The Ball will feature raffle prizes and a silent auction featuring fantastic prizes from our generous sponsors. Raffle tickets are $5 each and can be bought at the door. This year the fundraiser is combined with our league awards night!
THE WINDY CITY ROLLERS
The Past Chicagoans Elizabeth "Juanna Rumbel" Gomez and Kelly "Sister Sledgehammer" Simmons brought the idea of roller derby back from a trip to Austin, Texas, where a revival of the once-popular sport was already underway. In September 2004, and the pair formed Chicago's first all-female flat track derby league--the Windy City Rollers. Roller derby has its roots in Chicago, where it all began in 1935, and the local resurgence in 2004 was met with excitement from fans old and new.
The Present The Windy City Rollers (WCR) are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to raising the visibility of the sport of roller derby in the international arena, and supporting the athletes playing in our local communities. We have been proud members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association since its inception, and we boast a roster featuring some of the most talented skaters in the sport.
The Future Despite being the fastest-growing sport in the world, roller derby remains an amateur sport that relies on the generosity of our sponsors to raise the funds we need to grow this sport and give our members the means to consistently remain some of the most talented skaters today and tomorrow. The Windy City Rollers mentor youth just starting to play junior roller derby, and welcomes people of all ages and ability to get involved in a sport that prides itself on being Real, Athletic, and Revolutionary.
