Great Discussions -- Freedom From Fear -- Paul Worsham and SLO District Attorney Dan Dow

Great Discussions 2017 is a participatory course designed for those informed and thoughtful people among us who love to engage in real discussion and respectful debate over issues of the day. This course is a forum for exchanging ideas about international and domestic public affairs and America's place in the world.
This is the last of four discussions aboutThe Four Freedoms.
The Four Freedoms were goals articulated by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt on January 6, 1941. In an address known as the Four Freedoms speech (technically the 1941 State of the Union address), he proposed four fundamental freedoms that people "everywhere in the world" ought to enjoy: Freedom of speech; Freedom of worship; Freedom from want; and Freedom from fear.
This Great Discussion course isa four-part series and we end with a discussion of Freedom from Fearone our fundamental rights. .
Our guest speaker, SLO District Attorney Dan Dowwill talk to us about the personal protections we should expect and demand from our local, state and federal governments.
Among the discussion questions will be:
--If Americans allow autocracy to replace democracy, do we deserve safety?
--If Americans do not feel entirely safe, are they at liberty to arm themselves without restrictions from government or restraint from society?
--If Americans feel threatened by anyone, anywhere, anytime, are they free to stand their ground in self-defense?
--If America feels threatened by any other nation, do they have the right to take preemptive actions in self-defense?Are Americans giving up essential personal liberties in order to gain the benefits that come from using and depending upon modern technologies?
While Paul Worsham's education and career focused on consumer electronics marketing, he has a deep and active interest in world affairs and America's place in the world.
