Enviros Agency Day - Being An Effective Ally: Integrating Diversity and Inclusivity into Practice
Workshop by Maurie Lung
Description: This workshop is geared toward Enviros practitioners interested in challenging themselves by exploring personal experiences, values, perspectives that are unique while also striving to learn about others experiences and provide culturally relevant services.  Additionally, this workshop is framed with culturally-sensitive and relevant trauma-informed care, which refers to the capacity for healthcare professionals to effectually provide trauma-informed assessment and intervention that acknowledges, respects, and integrates patients' and families' cultural values, beliefs, and practices.  Language, range of emotion, and intent will be explored both as a participant and as our roles as practitioner (i.e., Enviros therapist, field staff, support staff, supervisor, etc.).
Workshop Goals: Through thoughtful dialogue, self-reflection, and intentional experiential activities, participants will:
1.Learn ways to challenge self to enhance personal knowledge and skills.
2.Practice creating brave spaces for clients that allows participants to feel safe enough to be vulnerable.
3.Explore ways that cultivate a working community space that holds self and others accountable for the shared values of diversity and inclusivity.
4.Increase ability to recognize cultural variations in the subjective perception of trauma and traumatic stress responses.
5.Increase understanding of the role of beliefs in the interpretation of trauma and the recovery process, including restoring dignity, fostering a sense of safety, and attending to the distress of the client in the way that the client defines it.
