Jubilant Sykes, Baritone
Perhaps no vocalist of our time possesses a more exquisitely versatile instrument than the Grammy nominated baritone Jubilant Sykes. Mr. Sykes brings a new dimension to the traditional career of the classically trained vocalist by drawing on gospel and jazz influences to deliver performances in differing musical genre that often leaves audiences and critics searching for new superlatives. The Atlanta Journal- Constitution was inspired to proclaim, Jubilant Sykes voice is extraordinary. He isnt merely an outstanding singer, his voice is art at its highest expression.
This course will be in two parts. In the early morning, there will be a lecture about the composers, about the pieces that will be played in the rehearsal, and about the soloist. In the late morning, the class, as a group, will attend the dress rehearsal of the performance in the Christopher Coan Center at the PAC at Cal Poly. At the dress rehearsal the SLO Symphony conductor will speak as he conducts, giving background information, musicology, and notes on harmony. With the conductor's broad knowledge and stage presence, the dress rehearsals are fairly comprehensive.
