Champagne Widow Workshop
Join us for a unique evening that takes you down into the cellars of Cafe Nordo, with our wine steward Tom Hajduk sharing bottles of sparkling wine from around the world. We are also taking this opportunity to showcase a behind-the-scenes process of workshopping a new style of dinner theater - a theatricalized tasting - called The Champagne Widow, As you sip sparkling wine, use your imagination as you listen to a reading of the play that goes deep into the feminine heart of what makes sparkling wine and champagne so magical and the history of a woman - Veuve Clicquot - who shaped the wine industry.
WHAT IS THE CHAMPAGNE WIDOW?
You have been invited to tour the cellars of "The Champagne Widow". Perhaps you are a nineteenth century merchant from neighboring Britain, or Russia or Algiers. Perhaps it is the summer of 2017 and you're visiting Reims on the coattails of a wealthy friend. No matter the time or place you are certainly foreign, exotic and treasured guests. Madame has offered to be your personal guide through the subterranean caves that connect the region of Champagne. You will hear how she came to be a Widow and then, despite all odds, a legacy in her own lifetime. Will you leave with her famous 1811 vintage, or with the slightly drunken American tourist sharing the same small bistro table? Anything might happen when champagne is involved. We are here to sample a wine and a woman, to learn her history, while making some of our own.
WHAT IS A NORDO WORKSHOP?
This is a dinner theater play in its first drafts. By sharing a reading of the play, while drinking the wine that inspired it, we hope to further the creative process of the writer and performer (Opal Peachey) for future production at Nordo's Culinarium. Your feedback is vital to the process.
