In this class we'll explore the intersections between the written word and other mediasuch as visual artto imagine new worlds for our poetry. Through a variety of tactics and terms that we'll learn and define together (ekphrasis, erasure, concrete poetry, visual poetry, poetry comics, fragmentation) we'll play with form and function to generate new poems. Although previous visual art skills are not required, a willingness to engage with media like collaging and challenge yourself to reimagine what a poem can look like is encouraged. We'll look at the work of writers like Douglas Kearney, Jen Bervin, Angel Nafis, Austin Kleon, Evie Shockley, Chelsey Minnis, Bianca Stone, Alexander Rothman, Paul K. Tunis, Jenny Holzer, Robert Montgomery, and others.
