Focal Point Friends of Old-Time Music Presents: An Evening With the Volo Bogtrotters
The Volo Bogtrotters got their start in the mid-1980s somewhere near Chicago. They soon gained a well-earned reputation across the country for their spirited interpretations of old-time songs gleaned from old 78 RPM recordings combined with twin-fiddle renditions of tunes collected from older fiddlers in downstate Illinois by Chirps Smith during his days with the legendary Indian Creek Delta Boys. After an active fifteen years, and a few personnel changes, the band called it quits in 2002.
A little over five years ago, six members of the band Fred Campeau (fiddle, banjo, uke, Hawaiian guitar), Jim Nelson (guitar), Steve Rosen (banjo, mandolin, fiddle), Tony Scarimbolo (upright bass, harmonica), Chirps Smith (fiddle), and Paul Tyler (mandolin, fiddle) joined forces in a reconstituted and rejuvenated version of the band that is better than ever. They'll be playing some old favorites and a few soon-to-be favorites, too. Don't miss this rare St. Louis appearance by the Midwest's premier old-time string band!
