The Second Annual Forever Young Neil Young Birthday Celebration Concert is taking place at the historic Plaza Playhouse Theater in Carpinteria, California on November 11, 2017 (the eve of Neil Youngs 72nd birthday). The concert will feature the San Francisco Bay Areas SHAKEY ZIMMERMAN and local roots rockers CLAUDE HOPPER. Showtime 8 pm! Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Murphy's Vinyl Shack 5285 Carpinteria Ave, Laughing Buddha Thrift 771 Linden Ave, the theatre box one hour prior to show time or online at thealcaza.org.
The concert will be a celebration of the music and spirit of Neil Percival Young (Shakey), the Godfather of Grunge who has twice been inducted (for his solo work and Buffalo Springfield) into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which describes Neil as, one of rock and rolls greatest songwriter and performers.
Headliner Shakey Zimmerman brings an authentic true-to-form sound to the Plaza Playhouse Theatre. Shakey Zimmerman powerfully delivers iconic songs of legends Neil Young and Bob Dylan. The band is led by Bay Area musician, Pat Nevins. Nevins has an uncanny ability to channel both Young and Dylans trademark voices while giving them his own stamp. Shakey Zimmerman shows are packed with famous tunes, full of grit and attitude that entertains audiences of all ages. Shakey Zimmerman is locked and loaded with a dizzying catalog that span the decades. The band is rounded out by the fingerpicking and fierce attack of guitar slinger, Jody Salino, a protégé of Jorma Kaukonen. The combination of Salino and Nevins is sheer magic. Pat Nevins played for six years as a member of the Ghosts of Electricity, solidifying his knack for delivering intense Bob Dylan style vocals. He has shared the stage and opened for many famous names, including Bob Weir, David Nelson, New Riders of The Purple Sage, The Radiators, Commander Cody, Merle Saunders, Koko Taylor, and Lonnie Brooks. He is known as the founding member of Workingmans Ed, popular with Northern California deadheads. Salinos guitar techniques are a perfect complement to Nevins, as he pulls from the well of his instructors Dave Van Ronk, Stefan Grossman, John Renbourn, and Ian Buchannon, all students of Reverend Gary Davis. Salino is also a highly skilled recording engineer who has worked on projects with Bill Kirchen, Phil Lesh, JC Flyer, Jimmy Herring, Rasheid Ali, Jaco Pastorius, and Earnest Boom Carter. Completing the lineup is drummer, Mike Eaves, Bassist and Jen Rund.
