Event
Brookhaven Wines, Chef Matt Marcus and LE MACCHIOLE
I was not sure how to write an intro for this event because of how special this winery is and how excited I am to be able to host them. Located on some of the most famous wine real estate the world has to offer, Le Macchiole is in Bolgheri, Tuscany. The estate has been producing stunning wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot for over twenty years. I have personally had enough of these wines both young and with many years of bottle age to say they are truly spectacular. As this is a small winery and these wines highly sought after by collectors we are limited to 20 guests. We will be hosting Gianluca Putzolu who is the sales director for the winery, our friend Chef Matt Marcus will be taking care of us. I have attached reviews of the wines and the menu below; please join us if you can for some amazing food and mind-bendingly good wines from LE MACCHIOLE.
Passed Treats: Local Curds and Tomato with Aged Balsamic Blueberry and Chambord Chicken Wings Tuna Poke Crawfish wontons with strawberry
Served Grill Side in the Garden: Smoked Brisket Elotes, Mexican grilled corn Yuzu and granny smith apple slaw
Take Home Treat: Peanutbutter Cup Goodie Bag
The Wines Paleo Cabernet Franc 2013: Paleo is a pure expression of Cabernet Franc first made in 2001. The 2013 Paleo shows a soft and feminine side with rose petal, lavender, wet earth, rosemary and dark fruit. These are beautiful but unexpected qualities. The wine is ever so reflective of the grape variety, but it also does a great job of incorporating Tuscan ideals, with sunshine, grace and generosity among them. As you dig deeper, Paleo Reveals more surprising layers. The finish is soft; Paleo reveals something new each time you go back to the glass to take a new sip. This wine promises a long aging future drink 2017-2037. Wine Advocate 97 points
Scrio Syrah 2013: The 2013 Scrio is an opulent, generous and engaging wine. It reveals an all-Syrah personality with ample layers of dark fruit, blackberry, spice, cured meat, leather and bacon fat. Its integration is absolutely seamless. Scrio is dark and impenetrable in terms of apperance and presentation. The bouquet and mouthfeel are long and luscious. You can count the length of the finish in many, many long seconds. Only 5,000 bottles are made. In terms of its aging potential, this Tuscan Syrah has the inner energy to last two decades or more. Drink 2017-2035 Wine Advocate 97 points
Messorio Merlot 2010: The 2010 Messorio . . . is an expertly crafted Merlot that offers so much in terms of charm, intensity and finesse. The opulence of its dark fruit and black cherry is offset against lingering tones of spice and leather. You can either drink it now or put it in your cellar for safekeeping. In fact, my initial review I had assigned a shorter drinking window but I am revising that prediction here. Drink 2017-2038 Wine Advocate 95 points
Additionally we will be showing the current release (2015) of the fourth and final red produced: The Bolgheri Rosso is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot and is a one of our best selling Italian red wines in the store. 91+ points Wine Advocate
