During Miami Art Week, internationally acclaimed live artist Tania El Khoury (London/Beirut) implements two interactive performance pieces using real oral histories and innovative forms that challenge audience's empathy.
As Far As My Fingertips Take Me is a conversation through a gallery wall between an audience member and a war refugee. Through touch and sound, we share stories of people who have recently challenged border discrimination. The stories can be kept or washed away.
Across the street from the New World Center at the Gleason Room in the Fillmore Miami Beach, MDC Live Arts will also present Ms. El Khoury's Gardens Speak, an interactive sound installation containing the oral histories of ten ordinary people who were buried in Syrian gardens. Their stories are retold as they themselves may have recounted them, compiled with found audio that evidences their final moments.
"A stark, moving theater piece by Tania El Khoury, brings us into painful intimacy with the human cost of the war." -The New York Times
Please note: Very limited tickets available per time block. Performance is one-on-one and lasts approximately 15 minutes.
