During Miami Art Week, internationally acclaimed live artist Tania El Khoury (London/Beirut) implements two interactive performance pieces using real oral histories and innovative forms that challenge audience's empathy.
Gardens Speak is an interactive sound installation containing the oral histories of ten ordinary people who were buried in Syrian gardens. Their stories are retold as they themselves may have recounted them, compiled with found audio that evidences their final moments.
Across the street from the Fillmore Miami Beach, MDC Live Arts will also present Ms. El Khourys As Far As My Fingertips Take Me at the New World Center. Fingertips is a conversation through a gallery wall between an audience member and a war refugee. Through touch and sound, we share stories of people who have recently challenged border discrimination. The stories can be kept or washed away.
"A stark, moving theater piece by Tania El Khoury, brings us into painful intimacy with the human cost of the war." -The New York Times
Please note: Reserving a time slot is essential as only 10 patrons can experience the installation an hour. There is no late seating for this event. Audience members should arrive 15 minutes prior to show time.
