Henry V by William Shakespeare
At a time when it may be more appropriate to bring encouragement to national pride to the stage, rather than the dark drama, news and documentary so prevalent elsewhere, Shute Theatre and Arts Guild has chosen to present William Shakespeares Henry V for East Devon audiences this October.
The play tells the story of the remarkable English victory over the French at the Battle of Agincourt to secure Henrys successful claim to the throne of France, interwoven with his wooing of the French Princess Katherine to be his Queen. Considerable editing of the lengthy text has made the play concise and dramatic for modern audiences, allowing the story to flow swiftly while preserving the history and all the favourite lines.
An impressive cast has been assembled from a wide area, including several who follow some illustrious professional examples of cross-dressing. The Director, Elisabeth Miller, is giving nothing away but says Be assured, every member of cast will be entirely believable.
Come prepared to thrill to the action, laugh at the rogues, rejoice in the language and to use your imagination!
