Los Angeles Pierce College Theatres 2017-2018 Season (the theatres 60th anniversary) will open in October with Aaron Posners hilarious new play, Stupid Fucking Bird, irreverently based on Anton Chekovs The Seagull. Performances begin Friday, October 20 and continue through Sunday, October 29 in the LAPCs Dow Arena Theatre. Youve never seen Chekhov like this. Aaron Posners bold and cheeky update of The Seagull thrusts us into a country house where unrequited desire is downed in equal parts by alcohol and sarcasm. In true Chekhovian fashion, actresses, playwrights, doctors and novelists bare their souls as they search desperately for the truth of love and art. Posners hit comedy is a rough-and tumble, meta-theatrical mash-up that is both exuberant and hysterically funny. An aspiring young theatre director struggles to get out from under the show of his mother, a famous actress. Meanwhile, his young muse falls for his mothers lover, and everyone discovers just how disappointing love, art, and growing up can be. In this contemporary riff on Chekhovs The Seagull, Aaron Posner skillfully remixes the renowned subtext of the classic play into exuberant and hysterical scenes and songs. LAPC Theatres production of Stupid Fucking Bird will be directed by Anthony Cantrell. The cast features Trevor Alkazian, Justine Brandy, Matt DeHaven, Josh T. Ryan, Meagan Truxal, Monica Vigil and Jon Michael Villagomez. Danielle Riedinger is the stage manager. LAPC Theatres production features scenic design by Nick Caisse, costume design by Eileen Gizienski, lighting design by Michael Gend and sound design by Edward Salas.
