The Banjo Hour is a celebration of music, words, banjos, and the life of Captain Gravitone (philosopher, physicist, super-hero of the new millennia).
The two hour vaudeville-style show is hosted by magician and comedian, Michael Callahan (2nd Story Comedy), and features the music of Captain Gravitone & the String Theory Orchestra, with music guest, the legendary Papa John Kolstad, with Wailin Willie Smith. Our announcer is Minnesota hall-of-fame musician, Ron Arsenault, and our banjo consultant is the world-famous banjo maker (and player), Tom Nechville.
Eli Hoehn: Producer/Performer Eli is a composer, banjoist, vocalist and philosophy major, leader of the Minnesota-based group, Captain Gravitone & the String Theory Orchestra.
Michael Callahan: Host Michael Callahan is a renowned magician, comedian, artist, and the producer of 2nd Story Comedy, the premiere live comedy show in Southern Minnesota. Michael has been performing for two decades and has worked with numerous nationally touring headliners.
Papa John Kolstad: Guest Musician Legendary folk-blues singer, guitar player and entertainer Papa John Kolstad has been performing more than 40 years, blazing a musical trail across these United States. He performed regularly on The Prairie Home Companion radio show with Garrison Keillor, has been a featured performer at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival and the Winnipeg Folk Festival. In addition, he has worked with David Bromberg, Ricky Nelson, Joan Armatrading, Odetta, Utah Phillips, Jim Post, Willie Murphy, Spider John Koerner, Dave Ray, Lazy Bill Lucas and many others. Papa John is prominently featured in a chapter of the book The West Bank Boogie, covering the music and musicians of the 60's and 70s West Bank Music Scene. Papa John with Clint Hoover won the Road to Memphis, a juried musical event, and represented the Twin Cities at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN February 2007.
Ron Arsenault: Announcer/Interviewer Ron is a Midwest Country and Rock hall-of-fame musician.A life-long singer songwriter, he performs solo as well as with the Lost Walleye Orchestra, City Mouse, The Fabulous Fatheads, Gallumaufry, and Pengra and Arsenault. Rons instruments include:guitar (finger and flatpicking styles), slide guitar, nose flute, vocals, harmonica, and rubber noses.
Tom Nechville: Banjo Consultant/Performer Tom creates world class banjos and sells them to the greatest banjo players in the world, including Bela Fleck, Steve Martin, Allison Brown, the Dixie Chicks, among many more.
