Cuban Drum Rhythms & Songs with Virginia López
Cuban music rich, warm, sensual, and easygoing. Use the conga, horns and cowbell rhythms to take your hips for a journey. Cuban music has many genres: Afro-Cuban Rumbas, Bembé, Comparsa, Son, Chachachá, Guajira, Mambo, and more recent developments like Salsa, Reggetón, and Timba, just to name a few. Bring a hand drum is you have one. Congas preferably, although other drums like djembes, and ashikos would also be acceptable.
Playing drums and singing is a natural way to create community.
Virginia López has taught Cuban drumming and songs at music camps in Oregon, California, Michigan, and British Columbia. Ms. López is also available as a percussionist, and private instructor. Ms. López has been drumming and singing Cuban music in the Portland Area since 1989. In this workshop, Ms. López will present an introduction to rhythms and songs from her native Cuba.
This workshop is meant to be an introduction. Come with the expectation of having a fun time together. Virginia will lead you into drumming, and singing in a fun, and relaxed way. Bring your kid, bring your family, bring a drum.
