"Three Portraits" - HAVEN Trio in Concert
SOUL, POWER, CONNECTION A REFUGE FOR THE CREATION OF NEW MUSIC FOR SOPRANO, CLARINET, AND PIANO
Toronto-based composer and music director Kieren MacMillan enjoys an active career on both sides of the score. HAVEN Trio (soprano Lindsay Kesselman, clarinetist Kimberly Cole Luevano, and pianist Midori Koga) presents MacMillans Three Portraits, a dramatic setting of poems by Dana Gioia, the current Poet Laureate of California. Funded by an Ontario Arts Council Commissioning Grant, this work weaves together text settings and instrumental interludes into a narrative of nostalgia, emotional recollection, and a journey towards comfort. Abbie Betinis' Nattsanger (Nightsongs) which explore "the mysterious nature of the period from sunset to dawn" (Betinis website), will also be featured. HAVEN is thrilled to collaborate with Campbell House Museum in this unique opportunity to present two cycles of poetry and music in this historic mansion.
