Harmonium at The Old Barn, Kelston Roundhill
On Saturday 11th November, The Old Barn welcomes 26 female singers for a candle lit performance of Harmonium.
The composition, an ongoing collaboration between Norfolk's Sian Croose and Bath's Su Hart is an experiment in wordless vocal sound, created by layering voices using interlocking rhythms and harmonies.
Harmonium 1 was written by Sian for Vocal Invention Norwich in 2009; Sian and Su are now working together on this project, each writing pieces for women's voices that are influenced by music as diverse as Meredith Monk and Baka women's rainforest singing.
In 2015 Harmonium was performed in The Bath International Music Festival and the Norwich and Norfolk Festival.
Su and Sian have spent over 20 years creating community music, involving and empowering huge numbers of people to find and develop their voices and their strengths. The performance will showcase unheard sections of the work: some inspired by Kelston Roundhill.
Part of Harmonium can be heard on Su's website: Suhart.com
