Gamelan Pacifica continues its tradition of bringing leading artists from Indonesia to Seattle by presenting special guest Javanese musicians Ki Midiyanto and Heni Savatri. Midiyanto is a renowned musician and dalang (puppet master) and Heni Savatri is an accomplished psindhen (female vocal soloist) making her first appearance in Seattle.
Ki Midiyanto is a renowned Javanese musician and eleventh-generation dhalang (puppetmaster). He has performed for over twenty years in Indonesia, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. Born in Wonogiri, a rural district in the south central part of the island of Java in the nation of Indonesia, Midiyanto went on to study gamelan and shadow puppetry at the Sekolah Tinggi Seni Karawitan (Indonesian Academy of Musical Arts) before venturing abroad to teach and perform. He is currently a lecturer in Gamelan on the music faculty at the University of California, Berkeley.
Heni Savitri is a leading Javanese psindhen (singer) and graduate of the Indonesian Arts Academy in Central Java.
