Danny Green Trio with Optional Master Class
Hailed as one of the important up-and-comers on the scene today by All About Jazz, Green is one of Southern California's most prolific and talented jazz pianists. Using a brilliant blend of jazz, Brazilian, Latin, and classical elements, Green's unique music engages listeners with evocative melodies and infectious rhythms. The virtuosic trio includes bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm. The Danny Green Trio has won two awards for "Best Jazz Album" at the San Diego Music Awards, and their latest release made the Top 10 Best of 2016 Jazz Releases on All about Jazz, and best trio album on The Jazz Owl.

The Danny Green Trio features the talents of upright and electric bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm. Since its' formation in 2010, the trio has performed at notable venues, series, and festivals across the country.

The trio recorded their 2016 release, Altered Narratives, at New York City's famed Sear Sound recording studio with award-winning producer Matt Pierson. Released on OA2 Records, the album consists of eleven original compositions by Green. The album remained on the Jazz Week Top 50 chart for fourteen weeks and earned high praise from critics worldwide.

Jazz Composition: From Initial Concept to the Stage

Pianist and composer Danny Green is an award-winning Origin Records recording artist. As a jazz performer, Green has distinguished himself with a trove of original compositions for his trio and his latest project, trio plus strings. Known for his genre-crossing blend of jazz, classical, and Brazilian elements, Green has garnered praise from DownBeat, Jazziz, the Boston Globe, the San Diego Union Tribune, Public Radio International, and more.

In a lecture intended for both musicians and non-musicians, Green shares his experience as a composer, covering a wide range of topics: channeling inspiration, balancing musical intuition with musical theory, utilizing technology, shaping compositions through arrangement, and notating for different instrumentations.

Longtime trio members Justin Grinnell (bass) and Julien Cantelm (drums) join Green to demonstrate how musicians bring a musical score to life. Each will share his individual approach to interpreting music from a score and perform live examples.
