Celtic Duo Cassie and Maggie MacDonald: Fiddle, Guitar & Keyboards

Celtic duo Cassie and Maggie MacDonald will arrive from Nova Scotia with their high-energy fiddle, guitar and keyboards for a performance at the Willits Community Theatre on Sunday, October 22, at 2pm. The sisters have enchanted audiences across North America and Europe with their lively arrangements, sibling vocal harmonies in both English and Gaelic, and their intricate and percussive step-dancing style. The duo has performed at Celtic festivals from Paris to Milwaukee. The sisters have been Galaxie Radio Rising Star award winners, Canadian Folk Music Award nominees for Young Performers of the Year, East Coast Music Award nominees for Traditional Album, and double Music Nova Scotia Award nominees for New Artist and Roots Album of the year.
Born into a rich musical heritage and raised in Nova Scotia, a province steeped in musical culture and traditions, the sisters have used their unique upbringing as a springboard for their own brand of Celtic Roots music. They balance classic Celtic tunes with their original compositions and arrangements, hew close to their Scottish roots and yet also explore and test the boundaries of traditional music, bringing a breath of fresh air to the genre. Their energy is infectious, their rhythms driving and their melodies lilting. They are equally at home weaving themes from the Moonlight Sonata as launching into sets of sure fire "reels".
The MacDonalds are celebrating the release of their third album, The Willow Collection. Irish Music Magazine says of the album, [it] showcases not only their musical ability, but also the depth and variety of their musicianship. Live Ireland Radio calls Cassie and Maggie MacDonald an unbelievably gifted duo and new stars on the Celtic music scene.
