Synopsis: Come on a 21 year journey where the twin gods of creation and destruction hold hands. A musical prodigy at 15 and playing with Australias best, jazz trumpeter, trombonist and composer Simon Kent is as talented as he was troubled as he endures a life long battle with mental health issues. A distorted tour through the private rehearsal spaces and hospital hallways of a musician on the fringe, into a land of sliding night shadows, slithering and peaked with bent notes, creative highs, babies and lithium smoothed breakdowns. Where life is jazz.
Director: Nigel Deans, was born in Christchurch New Zealand, raised in the Wimmera wheat planes of Victoria Australia, and studied Film at Swinburne/VCA Melbourne. Nigel made several short films while working on Bigly Yellow, which has taken 20 years to complete, his first feature film, co-directed and co-produced with Nubar Ghazarian. Screening with:

Synopsis: Emerald Ice is a cinematic journey exploring the mind of the American poet Diane Wakoski. Narrated by the poet herself, the audience assumes the side of the reader as facts of the authors life weave through enigmatic, fantastical and fractured stories.
Director: Originally from the Strawberry capital of the World: Watsonville, CA, Jesseca Ynez Simmons is a filmmaker and artist currently based in Chicago, IL. She received her BA in Politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, followed by an MFA in Documentary Media from Northwestern University. Jesseca was a finalist for the 2016 American Society of Cinematographer's Vilmos Zsigmond Award for her thesis film EMERALD ICE and a 2015 Southern Exposure Film Fellow for the Southern Environmental Law Center in Birmingham, AL. Jesseca currently holds the Filmmaker in Residence position at Northwestern University.
