Greetings of Peace!
October is Filipino American History Month, a nationally recognized time for us to celebrate the presence and heritage of one of the largest Asian American ethnic groups in the United States.
And we think you'll come to agree with us that Eskrima/Kali/Arnis is one of our most prevalent contributions as a people to American society which has garnered a sizable recognition owed in great part to the efforts of today's current roster of active Filipino martial arts groups.
What better way to express our combined sentiments towards the greatness of our indigenous fighting arts than an exhibition of training and skill within a competitive sporting atmosphere.
We invite you to be part of the 1st Annual Los Angeles Friendship Tournament, a premier World Eskrima, Kali, Arnis Federation sanctioned event that is being presented to the Angeleno community as part of the 26th Festival of Philippine American Culture organized by FilAm ARTS.
FilAm Arts is an organization founded to facilitate community synergy and transformation by advancing the arts and diverse cultural heritage of Filipinos through arts services, presentation, and education.
The tournament will take place at the South-East corner of Los Angeles Citys historic Echo Park Lake.
Known as the crown jewel of public parks this 13-acre urban lake has been a staple to Filipino-American community events since its rehabilitation in 2011.
This first-ever Los Angeles Friendship Tournament will be directed by Master Erwin Mosqueda, chief instructor of Los Angeles Doce Pares and veteran tournament organizer of WEKAF-style competitions local and international.
Competition Divisions will include Traditional and Non-Traditional forms, Padded stick point-system sparring and Live stick continuous sparring in single stick and 3-man team fight format. All divisions will adhere to WEKAF rules and shall be open to all ages, styles and experience level.
