Party Apocalyptique at Spectrum! Make your last night your best.
Spectrum and Turn Off the Light present: Party Apocalyptique: The Last Concert you will Ever See
An apocalyptic party of biblical distortions.
Make your last night your best.
Bringing in the soon-to-be apocalyptic winter solstice of 2012 in style, Ensemble Turn Off the Light presents the ecstatic and enveloping Quartet for the End of Time of Olivier Messiaen, and a new work by current Columbia doctoral candidate David Bird, written especially for the ensemble and for the pending apocalypse.
The show starts at 7:30, and will have the expected Olivier Messiaen Quartet ("for the End of TIme"), as well as some situationally-appropriate music form reality-bending guitarist Hans Tammen and dance music by DJ Apocalypticon (aka Adam Rokhsar). Come dance until you drop (for one reason or another); Igor Stravinsky's choreographer will have nothing on us.
Party and drinks to ensue, barring epically proportioned natural disaster. Yes it is the shortest day of the year, but hey, on the bright side, it's also the longest night! (not to mention, the last).
$10 for students in advance $20 at the door INFO ON ADVANCE ONLINE PURCHASE COMING SOON!
Turn Off The Light is... Liam Kinson - clarinet Marina Kifferstein - violin Susanna Mendlow - cello Andy Costello - piano
Turn Off the Light is the newest brainchild of Montreal based pianist Andy Costello and NYC based violinist Marina Kifferstein. Their mission is to present innovative, cutting edge, and totally enthralling performances that challenge and inspire their audiences. Active in the world new music community, members of Turn Off the Light have been spotted in performance with major contemporary music ensembles across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia.
Hans Tammen is a possiibly-evil genius ( we are sure about the genius part) who has been doing unheard-of things with amplified guitar for quite some time. He promises to make this a good performance, or die trying; possibly both. Spectrum is thrilled to welcome Hans back.
DJ Apocalypticon (aka Adam Rokhsar) has been developing his distinctive offering of avant-garde-yet-danceable beats for quite some time. His Spectrum debut is long overdue; glad we are getting it in just in time . . .
