Sept 24 at the Casa P: Ethan Foote with Mark Meadows and Lena Seikaly
As usual, doors open at 6:30 for a full vegetarian feast, and music starts at 7:30. The Casa is a private home; please leave shoes at the door but you may BYOB inside! Tickets are $25 and seats are limited. If this concert sells out as expected, no tickets will be sold at the door. 100% of ticket sales goes to the musicians - dinner is a gift from your host.
And what musicians! We're *dazzled* by these three stars. Ethan Foote is a musician and composer of exceptional gifts. Most familiar on his double bass, Ethan also plays cello, guitar, and bass guitar. He is trained as a classical and jazz artist, and draws on a very wide and eclectic knowledge of music, in his original compositions and collaborations with others, such as the singer and composer Marian McLaughlin, with whom Ethan has been repeatedly featured on NPR. Ethan has also worked in theater, as a composer and sound designer. In 2015 he released his acclaimed first album, Fields Burning, and in 2016-2017 he was chosen as one of just six artists in residence at the Strathmore Mansion in Bethesda. Listen to him here https://www.youtube.com/embed/xxDP7EIdt1M?autoplay=1&hd=1&rel=0 and here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwJYGv5yM9M
Mark G. Meadows, who has honored and dazzled the Casa by playing several times before, is a jazz pianist, vocalist, composer, and actor who was awarded best album (To The People)and composer of 2016 as well as artist of the year in 2014 by Washington City Paper. He recently made his acting debut playing the lead role as Jelly Roll Morton in Signature Theatres Jellys Last Jam. Mark lives in DC and tours frequently with his band and several others, bringing a message of love, joy, and hope to his audiences. He is a mesmerizing, dynamic performer - and one of the all-out best jazz pianists we have... not to mention his voice. Listen here https://markgmeadows.com/music
The vocalist Lena Seikaly was aptly named "one of the local jazz scenes most promising performers" by the Washington Post and "one of the contenders for D.C.'s best singer" by the Washington City Paper. Trained from early childhood in piano and classical voice, Lena discovered a passion for jazz in college. Since then she has won major jazz competitions, and has produced three albums to great critical acclaim: Written In The Stars (2009), Lovely Changes (2011), and Looking Back (2013). Lena is also active as a classical mezzo soprano, and, as a Palestinian-American, has taken part in many Arabic fusion projects, in the US and abroad.
