Julius Caesar is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in 1599. It is one of several plays based on true events from Roman history. Some scholars believe Shakespeare chose to open his new Globe Theatre with Julius Caesar. The play is an uncompromising examination of how a society, faced with an internal drift to tyranny, can slip into civil war, and revert overnight to barbarism. A tragedy without clear-cut villains and heroes, Julius Caesar is as fresh today as it was on that opening night over 400 years ago. We are looking forward to director Bill Peters' interpretation of this classic work.
