THE PIED PIPER
Once upon a time there was a little town that had a big problem. RATS!
How can the mayor of the town keep the citizens happy and keep himself rich at the same time? After sending out an international call of distress, the mayor finally employs the ultimate exterminator, The Pied Piper. What happens when the rats are all drowned and the mayor refuses to pay? Fast paced action, lots of audience participation, cheesy jokes, lots and lots of rats and wonderful scenery keep this lively show scampering along.
The performance of this classic tale (loosely based on the poem by Robert Browning) takes place in an unusual puppet stage that turns to present all of the wonderful places the story takes us. The action takes place in, on, around and above the unique performance space. Live voices, music and sound effects add to the excitement of this unique piece of theatre art.
Paul Mesner Puppets Present:
PULCINELLA
Paul Mesner brings his own personal touch to this production of Pulcinella, an Italian puppet tradition over three centuries old.
Pulcinella is the hero of this story, however, he is all but pure innocence. After dancing with his girlfriend Teresina, his antics, joy for life and noise making get him into trouble with his neighbor, who consequently suffers from Pulcinellas stick. The neighbor suffers so much that he falls into a coffin. Later when Pulcinella falls asleep, death comes to claim his property. Pulcinella awakes, and while unable to defeat death, escapes from his clutches. Soon the police arrive to find what has happened and Pulcinella insists the man is asleep. Failing to elude the law, Pulcinella finds himself in prison awaiting the hangman. While in prison a priest comes to hear Pulcinellas confession and after listening to Pulcinellas account, leaves without insuring his absolution. When the hangman finally arrives to ready Pulcinella for his death, Pulcinella tricks death again with his antics and survives to dance again with his girlfriend, Teresina.
