The Midwood Miracle
Writer/Performer: Deborah Karpel Additional music by Ted Kociolek and Rachelle Garniez, Lyrics by Deborah Karpel Director: Aimee Todoroff
Singer-actress-writer Deborah Karpel mixes autobiographical characters and events with imaginary stand-ins, evoking a family that felt rootless and accidental without a unifying identity (although the world outside might have characterized it as "lower-middle-class lefty Jews from Queens"). The story follows her mother's unlikely upbringing as a Jewish girl in coal mining Appalachia, VA, her parents meeting at a Catskills socialist summer resort, growing up in the 1970's, and twists of fate that lead Deborah to the music of her grandfather. THE MIDWOOD MIRACLE features original compositions along with traditional Americana, western swing, operatic arias, art songs, and Yiddish songs.

Visit the theater any evening during this three-week event, and you'll find yourself transported in a number of surprising ways: by a single performer embodying a whole host of characters; by a more experimental theater piece "done differently" that challenges and delights; by a cozy two-person show exploring relationships; or perhaps by a bouncy new musical that will have you humming. Emerging Artists has always been about new works, new talents, new voices. That's never been more evident than now.
NO REFUNDS will be granted.
