Voices of a Peoples History of the United States - GA seats available for purchase at door tonight.
General Admission to tonight's performance at 7:30p can be purchased at the door for $40.
This performance features readings from 'Voices of a Peoples History of the United States,' a companion performance to historian Howard Zinns legendary book "A Peoples History of the United States." The play includes selected testimonies, speeches, letters, poems, petitions, and manifestos of people throughout U.S. history who struggled against slavery, racism, war, and oppression.
Local social justice activists and celebrities will read these historical texts giving voice to the struggles for justice and liberation that are still relevant today. This evenings event brings together a multiracial community committed to acting in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. Performers include Matt McGorry and Melina Abdullah.
McCarty Memorial Church was founded in 1931 and became known for being one of the first congregations to integrate in the late 1950s. The congregation has been and continues to be involved in social justice, following the love ethic of Jesus. McCarty was involved in the civil rights movement and is currently involved in the fight for dignity for Black Lives and those who live on the margins.
White People 4 Black Lives hosts Courage Against Racism, a community event collaborative series and grassroots fundraiser. This event will be hosted in conjunction with the McCarty Memorial Church and Black Lives Matter Los Angeles.
Courage Against Racism is an ongoing event series that creates space for learning, dialogue, and community action. Our goal is to bring more white people into the movement for Black Lives and raise funds for the Los Angeles chapter of Black Lives Matter.
