GRUNT [Detroit]
GRUNT [Detroit] October 6 & 7, 2017 @ 7:30PM, doors @ 7pm Light Box 8641 Linwood St in Detroit
Kristi Faulkner Dance (Detroit) is joined by Miryam Johnson (Detroit) and The Space Movement Project (Chicago) in this split bill performance presented at Light Box in Detroit.
Kristi Faulkner Dance salutes the legacy of Motown artists in performing an excerpt from their evening-length work Four Letter Word. Through a litany of timeless love songs, Four Letter Word explores the awkward, tender, and complicated sides of 3 four-lettered words: love, like, and lust. Through humor and heartfelt expression, Four Letter Word celebrates the authentic experience of women in love.
Miryam Johnson presents excerpts from REBELLION, a dynamic dance, choreo-poem centered around the 50 year anniversary of the '67 Detroit Rebellion. REBELLION investigates the frustration, strength and resilience that has come with generations of continued rebellions in the Black Community.
The Space Movement Project presents Bottoms Edge, which explores the early settlement of Chicagos prairie ecosystem and its ultimate decimation. The work was created intentionally for Chicagos Pritzker Pavilion stage with the city skyline as a backdrop. Now preparing to tour the work, TSMP is interested in exploring how this relationship will evolve within new venues.
This performance is made possible through GRUNT. GRUNT is a network of independent dance artists dedicated to building a national consciousness and understanding of regional concerns, to showcasing creativity and diversity, and to ultimately growing the national appreciation for dance.
